St. Catherine Society
“We have all been warmed by fires we did not build,
and have drunk from wells we did not dig…”
-Anonymous
The St. Catherine Society honors individuals who, through their planned and
estate gifts, have made a significant commitment to Lancaster Catholic High
School. The Society expresses Catholic High’s abiding gratitude for those
persons who endorse its heritage and traditions and who have provided philanthropic
support to ensure that generations to come will enjoy the benefits of a Lancaster
Catholic High School education.
The Society is named in honor of St. Catherine of Alexandria, patron saint
of students, teachers and learned scholars. At the age of 18, St. Catherine
appeared before Emperor Maxentius to dissuade him from the worship of false
gods, and was thrown in prison. While she was incarcerated, the emperor sent
fifty philosophers to convert her, but because of her eloquence, each one was
converted to Christianity. She was condemned to death on the wheel, but the
apparatus was miraculously destroyed by her touch. A statue of St. Catherine
adorns the façade of the Old Main section of Lancaster Catholic High
School.
Established in 1999, the St. Catherine Society provides a way to recognize
our special benefactors who have helped to secure the future of this institution
by the thoughtful, meaningful inclusion of Catholic High in their financial
planning. The St. Catherine Society allows Lancaster Catholic to convey our
heartfelt and everlasting gratitude to planned and deferred donors before the
gift is actually realized. We are not only grateful to them for their vision
in providing for the future needs of Lancaster Catholic High School, but also
for their leadership.
