Meet Our Donors
On behalf of Lancaster Catholic High School, we would like to thank all of our
current donors for their generosity and support. Here are some of their stories.
The Zaleskie Family
Walt and Mary Zaleskie and their two daughters, Ellen ’79 and Teresa‘81,
have a special connection with Lancaster Catholic High School that began when
Ellen entered her freshman year in the fall of 1975. The relationship grew
stronger as both Ellen and Teresa made their marks at Catholic High, and happily,
it has not waned in the years since their graduation. In fact, just the opposite
is true. The family has remained involved at LCHS, always looking for ways
to make a positive difference at the school that they contend has had such
a significant effect on their family.
Over the years, the desire of the Zaleskies to leave a lasting legacy at Lancaster
Catholic has intensified, fueled by the understanding that their family tree,
at some point, will end. Both Ellen and Teresa have no children, so the family
was looking to maximize the good that can be done with the fruits of their
labors. An important consideration for the Zaleskies was to structure their
philanthropic efforts so that their assets would continually grow, forever
increasing the impact of their influence.
For more than a year, the family worked with legal and financial counsel,
investigating options to ensure their goals and interests would be realized.
This summer, their work culminated in the establishment of the Zaleskie Family
Foundation, which includes LCHS as one of three charitable beneficiaries. The
foundation will be funded by a partial distribution from Walt and Mary’s
estate, with the bulk of the funding coming with the inclusion of Ellen and
Teresa’s assets.
The importance of the Zaleskie Family Foundation is impossible to overstate.
Not only will the foundation meet a critical need (see below), the family’s
largesse will also rank among the most generous gifts in the history of Catholic
High. Even more importantly, the Zaleskies’ devotion in establishing
a deferred gift, especially in such a creative way, is an inspiring message
to others about the value and significance of gift planning.
Walt, Mary, Ellen and Teresa personify the best of what this school represents:
compassion, service, leadership and faithfulness. Their legacy will make Catholic
High a better place...forever.
Taking Care of our Teachers
Outstanding faculty are the heart of any great school, and that is certainly
the case at Lancaster Catholic. The quality of our teachers – and their
dedication (currently, staff salaries are 70% of the county average) -- so
impressed the Zaleskies that the focus of their family foundation is to make
sure that our faculty are treated as well as, if not better, than any in Lancaster
County. When the foundation is fully funded, the resources generated will bridge
(and exceed) the gap between what LCHS pays and what public school teachers
earn, as well as guaranteeing that the benefit, medical and retirement packages
for our teachers will be the equal of their public-school peers, and that the
opportunity for professional development will be unparalleled. The Zaleskies’ goal
is to make sure that we can continue to recruit and retain the best faculty
available. Remaining funds will be used to provide tuition assistance for deserving
students.

The St. Catherine Society honors individuals who, through their planned and
estate gifts, have made a commitment to the future of Lancaster Catholic High
School. The Society expresses Catholic High’s abiding gratitude for those
persons who endorse its heritage and traditions and who have provided philanthropic
support to ensure that generations to come will enjoy the benefits of a Lancaster
Catholic High School education.
